Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called on potential fence-sitters in her Trinamool Congress faction to make a decision before July 21 if they intend to join the rebel camp led by expelled leader Ritabrata Banerjee. This call came following hints from a former Trinamool Congress legislator about switching factions earlier in the day.
In a Facebook Live message, Mamata Banerjee explained the significance of the July 21 deadline, stating that on that day, a Martyrs’ Day rally will be held, marking a significant event for the Trinamool Congress. She emphasized the need for those under pressure from various agencies to decide and act before the specified date.
Banerjee stressed the importance of maintaining the party’s integrity and encouraged those considering a shift to do so promptly. She expressed readiness to embark on a new journey with dedicated followers post-July 21, emphasizing the value of loyalty and commitment to the cause.
The upcoming Martyrs’ Day rally will see a change in venue for Mamata Banerjee’s faction, moving from the traditional location near Esplanade to the Birla Planetarium as directed by the Calcutta High Court. Meanwhile, the Ritabrata-led faction plans to hold a counter-rally on the same day at Jawaharlal Nehru Road in central Kolkata.
