A man in Kolkata is facing charges for allegedly raping a woman multiple times and using private photos and videos to blackmail her, as per the police report on Thursday. The survivor filed a complaint leading to the FIR, initially at Metiabruz Police Station but later transferred to Bansdroni Police Station due to the incidents falling within its jurisdiction. An investigation has been initiated by the police.
The complaint details that the woman met the accused through social media seven years ago, developing a friendship that intensified during the Covid-19 lockdown. Since 2021, the accused allegedly took her to various locations outside Kolkata under the guise of travel, sexually assaulting her in hotel rooms. He also purportedly captured explicit images and videos to coerce her into maintaining the relationship, threatening to share them on social media and with her contacts if she resisted.
Allegedly, the woman faced intimidation and threats whenever she objected to the abuse, leading her to suffer silently for years without disclosing the incidents to her family. The harassment escalated over time, culminating in an incident at a Joka area hotel where she was reportedly sexually assaulted while under the influence of substances and forced to walk naked from her room to the balcony. After the distressing experience, she sought help from her family and reported the matter to the police.
A Zero FIR was first lodged at Metiabruz Police Station and later transferred to Bansdroni Police Station for a comprehensive investigation linking the accused and the offenses to that jurisdiction. A senior Kolkata Police official confirmed the registration of a case based on the woman’s complaint, with ongoing efforts to locate the accused.
