A man named Sumit Sharma from Delhi was arrested by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch for allegedly making fake social media profiles in a woman’s name and sharing AI-generated morphed nude images and videos of her and her mother. The victim reported the incident to the police, leading to the registration of a case under relevant sections of the law.

Investigators revealed that the victim, associated with the ISKCON Hare Krishna sect, had initially connected with Sumit Sharma on Instagram, where he engaged her in religious discussions. Sumit Sharma, a 27-year-old engaged in ritual-related activities, was known for posting religious content on social media platforms.

The complaint stated that an unknown individual stalked the victim online from December 2025 to April 6, creating three fake Instagram accounts in her name. Sumit Sharma used the victim’s images on these accounts and even set up a YouTube channel using her identity.

Sumit Sharma allegedly uploaded morphed nude images and videos of the victim and her mother on these fake accounts, along with offensive content aimed at harassing and defaming the victim. The arrest was made under ‘Mission Cyber Rakshika: #SecureHerSpace,’ an initiative focusing on safeguarding women from cybercrimes.

Authorities emphasized the importance of online safety for women, highlighting the risks of cyber fraud, deepfake profiles, and digital exploitation. Sumit Sharma, residing in Kartar Nagar, North East Delhi, had initially engaged the victim in religious conversations on Instagram before resorting to stalking and impersonation.

The accused’s actions, including creating fake social media accounts and posting manipulated content, were traced by the Cyber Crime Branch using technical and human intelligence. The police team arrested Sumit Sharma in Delhi after uncovering multiple fake accounts and AI-generated morphed images created by him.

In a public advisory post-arrest, the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch advised citizens to secure their social media profiles and avoid interacting with unknown individuals online.
