A 47-year-old man in Washim, Maharashtra, was arrested for deceiving an unemployed youth of Rs 1.73 lakh by falsely assuring him a government job and providing a counterfeit appointment letter. The accused, identified as Ramesh Ramkrishna Navghare, was apprehended following an investigation by the Local Crime Branch (LCB) uncovering a fraudulent scheme related to a Panchayat Samiti position.
The complaint filed at the Washim City Police Station stated that the accused lured the victim with promises of securing a government role as a Panel Technical Officer (PTO) in the Washim Panchayat Samiti. Allegedly claiming influence in the recruitment process, Navghare obtained money from the victim on multiple occasions.
The victim, hopeful of a stable government job, paid a total of Rs 1.73 lakh to the accused. To validate the authenticity of the recruitment process, the accused presented an appointment letter supposedly issued by the Karanja Panchayat Samiti. However, doubts arose when discrepancies were found upon verification of the appointment details, leading to the discovery that the letter was forged.
Upon realizing the fraud, the victim reported the incident to the police. Subsequently, the Washim police and LCB launched an investigation, resulting in the arrest of Navghare from a hotel in Washim. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) concerning cheating, forgery, and breach of trust.
