A man in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, attacked two women with a sword following a dispute over stray dogs in Shravan Kanta Colony. The women, Vandana Sen and Laxmi Thakur, suffered serious injuries, with one sustaining deep cut wounds to her stomach and the other injuries to her hand.
The incident stemmed from a disagreement over stray dogs in the area, where residents had complained about the dogs causing a nuisance by chasing pedestrians and posing a threat to children and elderly residents. In response to the complaints, a dog squad from the municipal corporation had captured and sterilized some of the stray dogs before releasing them back into the locality.
The dispute escalated when a local resident, Ashok Chauhan, brought some of the stray dogs back into the colony against the opposition of residents like Sen and Thakur. An argument ensued between Chauhan, who claimed to be a dog lover, and the protesting residents, leading to Chauhan allegedly attacking the women with a sword.
Police intervened, registering a case against Chauhan and others involved in the incident. An FIR has been filed, and search operations are ongoing to apprehend all the accused. Investigations are continuing to determine the full sequence of events and identify all individuals linked to the attack.
