A man named Vikas is feared to have drowned in the Yamuna River canal during an idol immersion ceremony at the Delhi-Noida border. Vikas was participating in the immersion of Goddess Saraswati idols when he reportedly slipped and fell into the river. The incident occurred as he was performing the ritual on foot, and despite ongoing search efforts, he has not been found yet.
The rescue operation, involving the Delhi Boat Club divers, was temporarily halted at night and resumed early the next morning. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, fire services, and the Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are actively engaged in the search operation along the border between East Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Eyewitnesses at the scene quickly alerted authorities when the man fell into the canal, but the strong current in the Yamuna River may have posed challenges to the rescue efforts.
East Delhi District Magistrate Amol Srivastava reported that the incident was brought to light on Saturday evening, triggering an immediate response from local police and administrative teams. Vikas’s brother recounted the incident, emphasizing the need for caution during such ceremonies near water bodies. Administrative officials are closely monitoring the rescue efforts and coordinating with multiple agencies to gather information. The public has been urged to be vigilant during idol immersion ceremonies to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
