In a significant ruling, a fast-track court in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, has handed Sukhvir Singh a rigorous life sentence for the rape and murder of his girlfriend at a guest house in 2020. The judgment was issued by Additional Sessions Judge Vijay Kumar Singh of the Fast-Track Court for Crimes Against Women-I. The court also levied a monetary penalty on the convict.
Sukhvir Singh, aged 31 and a resident of Nagla Pohpi in Mathura district, had been in a relationship with the victim for about six years. However, the woman’s family had arranged her marriage with another man from Azad Nagar in Mathura, scheduled for December 10, 2020. Upset by this, Sukhvir Singh allegedly plotted to kill her.
On December 2, 2020, the victim was lured to Gopi Krishna Guest House near Mathura Barrage Mor by Sukhvir Singh while she was out shopping for her wedding. In Room No. 12 of the guest house, he forced himself on her and then fatally shot her at close range with an illegal pistol. The woman died instantly from the gunshot wound to her temple.
The gunshot caused commotion in the guest house, leading to the arrest of Sukhvir Singh by the police. Upon investigation, the police recovered the murder weapon and cartridges from the scene. The prosecution, led by Additional District Government Counsel Subhash Chaturvedi, presented evidence including witness testimonies and the post-mortem report, confirming the cause of death.
