A man in the Dhupguri area of Jalpaiguri district, north Bengal, reportedly surrendered to the police after hacking his wife to death due to an extramarital affair. The accused used a sharp weapon to commit the crime at the lover’s house where the incident occurred. Following the attack, the man turned himself in at the police station, leading to his arrest.
The victim, identified as Soma Roy Barman, aged 32, was allegedly murdered by her husband, Srikanta Roy, who had been working as a laborer in another state. Srikanta, who had been away in Kerala for an extended period, returned home to discover his wife’s relationship with a young man from their neighborhood, sparking marital discord.
Reports suggest that Soma had been residing at her lover’s residence for about a week following a dispute with her husband. The fatal incident unfolded on a Saturday morning when Srikanta arrived at the house and carried out the gruesome act. Subsequently, he voluntarily presented himself at the police station, prompting his apprehension by the authorities.
Upon receiving the report, officers from the Dhupguri police station rushed to the scene, recovered Soma’s body, and initiated the necessary procedures for a post-mortem examination.
