Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh highlighted the importance of mutual understanding, dialogue, and cooperation among all communities for achieving sustainable peace in the state. He addressed the ethnic violence affecting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and emphasized the need for unity among the 36 communities residing in hills and valleys of Manipur.
Singh announced that Manipur Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs would visit all 36 relief camps where IDPs are staying to address their issues. He urged IDPs and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to build trust and work towards peace, acknowledging the challenges faced by those who have returned to their villages amid lingering fears in the state.
The Chief Minister distributed benefits to IDPs through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) at the National Games Village (NGV) Relief Camp in Imphal West, releasing nearly Rs 33 crore. He expressed the government’s commitment to facilitating the return of IDPs to their homes with peace and goodwill following the withdrawal of President’s Rule in Manipur.
Singh engaged with IDPs from Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, both in person and via video conference, marking a significant step towards reconciliation after years of ethnic violence. The state government organized joint interaction programs for IDPs from Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and Imphal West, where the Chief Minister listened to their grievances and assured support for their resettlement, education, and healthcare needs.
