Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has announced that the state government will transfer the investigation of the Ukhrul district shooting incident to the National Investigation Agency for a thorough examination. The incident involved the fatal shooting of two individuals from the Naga community on the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway by unidentified armed assailants.
The victims have been identified as Chinaoshang Shokwungnao, aged 45, and Yaruingam Vashum, aged 42. Expressing strong condemnation for the attack, the Chief Minister confirmed that the case will be handed over to the National Investigation Agency to ensure a comprehensive inquiry. The families of the deceased will receive ex-gratia compensation.
Security forces have initiated operations to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the attack, as stated by Singh. He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering justice while maintaining peace and stability in the state.
A delegation from the Manipur Meitei Pangal Welfare Organisation met with the Chief Minister to address concerns regarding the current situation in the state. The members expressed apprehension over the prevailing circumstances and presented a memorandum outlining key issues, which the government has acknowledged with utmost seriousness. Singh affirmed the government’s determination to restore peace and normalcy for the effective implementation of development and welfare initiatives.
