Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has declared that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will take charge of the case involving the abduction of six Naga villagers. A delegation from the United Naga Council (UNC) met with the Chief Minister and his cabinet members to address the law and order situation in the state.
Singh informed the UNC delegation during the meeting that the NIA would investigate the case of the six abducted Nagas. Additionally, he mentioned that the NIA had already been assigned the investigation into the killing of three church leaders in Kangpokpi district on May 13.
Since May 14, search and rescue operations have been ongoing to locate the six abducted Naga villagers from Konsakhul village in Kangpokpi district. The Chief Minister has urged the UNC to help secure the release of 14 Kuki civilians who have been held captive since the recent incidents began.
Emphasizing the importance of peace and communal harmony, Singh called on all communities in Manipur to support the government’s initiatives to normalize the situation and restore peace in the region.
The UNC delegation, led by President N.G. Lorho, pressed the government to intensify efforts to find and rescue the abducted Naga villagers. Reports indicate that around 50 individuals from the Kuki and Naga communities were held captive by various groups in Kangpokpi and Senapati districts following the events of May 13.
Tensions persist in the hill districts as both the Nagas and Kuki-Zo communities have been protesting separately over the recent violence, particularly after the tragic killing of three Kuki-Zo church leaders in Kangpokpi district on May 13.
