Manipur’s Home Minister announced plans to deploy more Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in the state after the completion of elections in West Bengal and other states. Previously, 88 central force companies were withdrawn from Manipur for election duties in states like West Bengal, Assam, and Tamil Nadu. Despite initial plans to withdraw more forces, the Ministry of Home Affairs assured no further withdrawals following the Chief Minister’s intervention.
Various organizations have called for a five-day shutdown in Ukhrul district and nearby areas to protest the killing of two Naga civilians by suspected Kuki militants. Chief Minister Khemchand Singh highlighted the adverse effects of prolonged shutdowns on daily wage earners, farmers, and students, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing public concerns.
In response to demands related to a tragic incident, the state government has offered a government job to the father of two children killed, who currently serves in the Border Security Force (BSF). The government also extended an employment offer to the children’s mother, a trained nurse, in the state health services. However, the family requested time to consider these proposals.
Chief Minister Khemchand Singh condemned the recent incident in Ukhrul district and assured compensation for the victims’ families as per government norms. He urged all communities to maintain peace, resolve issues through dialogue, and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to addressing public grievances. The State Home Minister detailed security deployment, stating that 184 CAPF companies will remain in Manipur to ensure security and stability.
