A manufacturing unit in Ahmedabad was sealed, and 452 liters of suspected ghee, valued at approximately Rs 2.85 lakh, were confiscated during a joint enforcement operation by the Gujarat Food and Drugs Regulatory Authority and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The operation, conducted at Shri Matangi Dairy and Food Products in the Kathwada area, was part of a statewide crackdown on food adulteration and regulatory violations.
Officials revealed that a flying squad from Gandhinagar, acting under the state’s anti-adulteration campaign, conducted a surprise inspection at the unit. Concerns raised during the inspection included suspicions of adulteration, the sale of ghee at unusually low prices, missing purchase and sales records, and the absence of a valid food license.
The Food Safety Officers seized the 452 liters of suspected ghee and sealed the entire factory for further investigation. It was also discovered that the operators were allegedly producing goods without the necessary license. Additionally, there were indications that production was being carried out under a different firm’s name, which is now under scrutiny as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Samples of the confiscated ghee have been collected and sent to a laboratory for scientific analysis. The results of these tests will dictate the subsequent actions to be taken. Legal actions will be initiated against those found responsible for any violations under the relevant food safety and regulatory laws.
The enforcement operation is part of a broader state-level campaign by the Food and Drugs Regulatory Authority to crack down on individuals and businesses suspected of compromising food safety standards. Gujarat’s Health Minister, Praful Pansheriya, emphasized the government’s commitment to combating food adulteration and activities that pose risks to public health, ensuring strict actions against adulteration elements in the future.
