A leading automobile company, Maruti Suzuki India, has started commercial production at its second plant in the Kharkhoda manufacturing facility in Haryana. This new plant has an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units, doubling the total capacity at the Kharkhoda facility to 5 lakh units per year. Maruti Suzuki’s overall annual production capacity across its manufacturing sites in Gurugram, Manesar, Kharkhoda, and Hansalpur has now reached 26.5 lakh units with this expansion.
The Kharkhoda facility, once fully operational, will become one of Suzuki’s largest four-wheeler manufacturing hubs globally, capable of producing 10 lakh vehicles annually. Maruti Suzuki had previously announced plans to add 5 lakh units of production capacity by FY2026-27, and the launch of the second Kharkhoda plant aligns with this strategy. Currently, the Kharkhoda facility manufactures the compact SUV Brezza and the mid-size SUV Victoris.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Kharkhoda facility in August 2022. Maruti Suzuki has been expanding its manufacturing capabilities to meet growing domestic demand and enhance its export focus. The company recently achieved a significant milestone by dispatching over 30 lakh vehicles through the Indian Railways network. Rail-based dispatches, which made up only 5% of total vehicle dispatches in FY2014-15, have now increased to 26.5% in FY2025-26.
Shares of Maruti Suzuki India saw a decline on Monday, dropping by 2.8% to reach an intraday low of Rs 12,855 on the BSE. The stock’s 52-week high on the exchange was Rs 17,371.60, while the low was Rs 12,019.75.
