Unknown masked attackers brutally killed a 20-year-old youth and critically injured his father and sister in Bhubaneswar’s Khandagiri area. The incident occurred near Kholathia Chowk during the early hours on Monday. The victim, identified as Krushna Chandra Padhi alias Buddhi, was a second-year undergraduate student from Ganjam district.
The victim’s father, Himanshu Padhi, a local temple priest, and his sister, Tapasi Padhi, were seriously hurt while trying to save Krushna from the assailants. Himanshu Padhi is currently in a coma and receiving treatment at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. The family had been living on a relative’s plot in Kolathia for the past two decades after the victim’s mother passed away a year ago.
According to DCP Meena, two masked assailants attacked Krushna with an iron rod at their house during the night. Despite the family’s efforts to rescue him, Krushna succumbed to his injuries at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. The police suspect the murder could be linked to past animosity and are investigating the case using CCTV footage and other evidence.
After the incident, the Bhubaneswar DCP and senior police officials visited the crime scene to oversee the investigation. Local residents mentioned that the victim and his family had no known enemies. The police are questioning locals for information, and a forensic team has collected evidence from the site.
