Traffic on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway faces significant disruption due to a massive landslide near the Missing Link project area. Efforts are underway to clear the debris, with approximately 100 tonnes already removed by the administrative machinery. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel on this route.
The landslide, a first-time occurrence in the area, has seen successful removal of 70 tonnes of debris, with work ongoing to clear the rest swiftly. While three lanes towards Pune are open, traffic towards Mumbai is limited to a single lane. Emergency measures aim to restore additional lanes within the next hour-and-a-half.
Minister for Public Works Department Shivendraraje Bhosale is overseeing operations at the site, with various departments and emergency teams collaborating closely. Citizens are urged to follow official guidance, traffic police instructions, and rely on verified information to navigate the situation safely.
Authorities have diverted traffic on the newly-opened Missing Link section as a precautionary measure following the landslide near Tunnel 2. Both directions on the expressway are closed due to landslides and heavy rainfall, with commuters advised to avoid travel unless essential. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation is actively managing the situation and appeals for public cooperation.
