Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati has called on both the Centre and state governments to protect India’s secular identity, uphold the Constitution’s dignity, and take strong action against post-election violence in West Bengal. Mayawati emphasized that India’s global reputation is based on the secular and inclusive principles enshrined in the Constitution drafted by Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.
She highlighted the importance of the country’s humanitarian values that guarantee the safety, property, and religious freedom of all citizens, stressing that both governments and individuals must respect these constitutional values. Mayawati underscored that the Constitution serves as a shield against negative perceptions of India internationally, urging authorities to prevent any actions that could tarnish the country’s image.
Addressing the recent post-election violence in West Bengal, Mayawati urged governments to be vigilant and crack down on lawlessness, particularly in compliance with court directives. She expressed concern over any government being accused of engaging in divisive politics, religious bias, or caste discrimination, emphasizing the need for equal implementation of laws for all religious communities.
Mayawati further emphasized the necessity of enforcing legal provisions impartially, without any bias based on religion or caste, to uphold the Constitution’s integrity and the rule of law. She asserted that such actions would enhance public trust in the government’s commitment to serving all communities equally, especially during challenging social, economic, and political circumstances.
