A tragic incident occurred in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, where Harshit Mehra, a 20-year-old second-year MBBS student, lost his life after being hit by a speeding truck while on his way to Ruxmaniben Deepchand Gardi (RD Gardi) Medical College. The collision took place on Agar Road near the college gate, resulting in his immediate death.
Harshit, a resident of the college hostel, was riding his motorcycle when the truck collided with him. The lack of speed breakers and poor traffic management near the college entrance were cited as contributing factors to the accident by protesting students and staff.
In response to the incident, students and staff staged a protest, demanding better traffic safety measures. Police officials, including City Superintendent of Police Pushpa Prajapati, intervened and assured the implementation of necessary safety measures, leading to the withdrawal of the protest.
The truck driver, who initially fled the scene, was later apprehended by the authorities. Legal actions are underway in connection with the tragic event. Harshit, who was described as a dedicated and talented student by his peers and teachers, was deeply mourned by the college community.
