The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is planning to dispatch a special aircraft to repatriate the bodies of Indian nationals who lost their lives in a tragic speedboat accident in Vietnam. As per reports, 15 deaths have been confirmed, with additional Indian tourists currently receiving medical treatment, including two in critical condition. The victims, part of a larger group on a leisure trip, were employees, distributors, and retailers of a private company visiting Vietnam for four days.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the fatal incident occurred when a boat carrying 32 Indian tourists capsized shortly after departing for an island excursion. Despite swift rescue efforts, 15 individuals lost their lives, while the injured were promptly transferred to a medical facility for treatment. Efforts are underway to expedite the repatriation process, with unaffected group members likely to return to India on July 12, pending necessary clearances.
Officials in New Delhi are collaborating with Vietnamese authorities through the embassy to facilitate the return of the survivors and provide necessary assistance. Prime Minister Modi and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi have expressed their condolences, urging the MEA to extend support to the affected individuals and their families. Various leaders from states like Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Telangana have also engaged with MEA officials, advocating for continued relief efforts.
