The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly ended its Budget Session for the day due to the passing of Shillong Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Dr. Ricky A.J. Syngkon. An emergency meeting of the Business Advisory Committee was held following the sudden demise of the MP. Speaker Thomas A. Sangma announced the decision to adjourn the House as the Budget presentation was scheduled for that day.
A revised legislative calendar will be presented to the House on Monday for approval, with the likelihood of the Budget presentation taking place then. The Assembly will have an obituary reference on Friday in memory of the late MP, after which the House will adjourn. Dr. Ricky A.J. Syngkon, the sitting Lok Sabha MP from Shillong, passed away on February 19 after a cardiac arrest.
Dr. Syngkon’s untimely death has deeply affected Meghalaya’s political landscape, with leaders from various parties expressing profound sadness. Known for his dedication to public service, he was a proactive parliamentarian advocating for issues concerning the state and the Northeast.
