Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma strongly criticized the assault on two individuals from the Northeast near the Saket District Court Complex in Delhi, calling it “sickening” and demanding strict action. He expressed concern over the repeated attacks on Northeastern people in mainland India, emphasizing the need to combat racial bullying. The incident, which involved a woman from Manipur and a transgender person from Assam, occurred in the Malviya Nagar area on Sunday evening.
Reports indicate that the victims were subjected to racially offensive remarks by a group of men, leading to a physical confrontation. The attackers allegedly assaulted the victims, including punching and hitting them with belts, while using abusive language. Sources revealed that the victims had previously faced verbal harassment in the same area.
The Delhi Police responded to the incident near the court complex, stating that the altercation began when the men made derogatory comments towards the victims, sparking an argument that turned violent. The woman from Manipur, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to Safdarjung Hospital for medical attention. Police confirmed that the matter is under investigation, assuring that appropriate legal measures will be taken against the perpetrators.
