Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma strongly denounced recent threats made by the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) against Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, president of the Voice of People Party (VPP). Sangma emphasized that such actions undermine peace and are unacceptable in a democratic society. Regardless of the individual targeted, Sangma asserted that ensuring the safety and security of all citizens is a top priority for the government.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the state authorities are treating the situation seriously and are prepared to take all necessary measures to maintain peace and public order. While expressing openness to peace talks with the HNLC, Sangma emphasized the need for thorough preparation and cooperation from all involved parties. He stressed the importance of sincerity, seriousness, and commitment in achieving lasting peace in the region.

Sangma reiterated that violence, intimidation, or threats hinder the peace process and instill fear among the populace. He affirmed the government’s dedication to pursuing development and inclusive governance while upholding law and order firmly. Emphasizing the importance of respecting the rule of law and working towards constructive solutions, Sangma underscored the government’s focus on progress, stability, and harmony.
