After a heavy 103-run loss to CSK, Mumbai Indians’ head coach Mahela Jayawardene recognized shortcomings in MI’s bowling. Despite sporadic good performances, Jayawardene emphasized the need for regrouping and returning with a positive mindset.
Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 101, supported by Akeal Hosein’s impressive 4-17, propelled CSK to 207/6. In response, MI struggled to build momentum, succumbing for just 104 runs in 19 overs, highlighting their struggles in the match.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Jayawardene expressed disappointment over the outcome, citing lapses during the powerplays with both bat and ball. He stressed the importance of learning from these setbacks and improving collectively as a team.
MI faced challenges in the powerplay, recording their lowest total against CSK in the IPL. Jayawardene acknowledged the need for consistency and execution improvements, especially in avoiding conceding big overs, which have been a recurring issue for the team.
With only two wins in seven matches, MI finds themselves in the lower half of the points table. They now have a five-day break to regroup before facing Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 29.
