Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, spearheaded the Special Commonwealth Games Edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati campus. This event celebrated fitness, youth engagement, and India’s sports aspirations. Organized by the Sports Authority of India Regional Centre and IIT Guwahati, it marked the 75th Fit India Sundays on Cycle nationwide, in honor of India hosting the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad.
The event, themed #CWG2030InBharat, united athletes, students, cyclists, fitness enthusiasts, and citizens in a spirited demonstration of national pride and community involvement. Raksha Khadse, addressing the attendees, emphasized the importance of the Fit India Movement initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She commended the increasing focus on fitness and sports participation across India.
In Guwahati, the event featured a grand cycling rally at the IIT Guwahati campus, symbolizing India’s collective journey towards a healthier and more robust sporting nation. Additionally, the program included yoga sessions, cultural events, and a special Thang-Ta martial arts performance showcasing the Northeast’s rich sporting and cultural heritage.
Olympian Jayanta Talukdar and Commonwealth Games medallist Sushila Devi Likmabam graced the occasion, interacting with participants and sharing their inspiring journeys as international athletes representing India. The event also hosted a Commonwealth Games-themed exhibition, spotlighting India’s sporting accomplishments over the past decade, including advancements under the Khelo India Mission and the country’s expanding sports infrastructure.
The 75th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle witnessed participation at over 8,000 locations nationwide, underscoring India’s rise as a global sporting force in anticipation of the Commonwealth Games 2030. This initiative, part of the Fit India Movement, has evolved into a major community-driven fitness campaign, promoting cycling, wellness, and active lifestyles across different age groups.
