The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation oversees 1,981 major infrastructure projects, totaling Rs 42.78 lakh crore as of April 2026, spread across 17 Central Ministries and Departments. These projects have utilized Rs 20.36 lakh crore, representing about 47.59% of the revised project cost, indicating steady project advancement.
A significant portion of the projects, 801 in number (40%), have achieved over 80% physical progress, while 277 projects (14%) have surpassed 80% financial completion. The data reveals a well-distributed project pipeline, covering both early and advanced implementation stages.
In terms of sector-wise progress, transport & logistics dominate, constituting 55% of the total revised cost at Rs 23.34 lakh crore across 1,459 projects (74% of the total). This underscores the importance of roads, highways, railways, aviation, urban public transport, shipping, and inland waterways in economic integration and logistics efficiency.
The energy sector follows closely with 27% of the revised cost (Rs 11.30 lakh crore) across 221 projects, reflecting a sustained focus on oil & gas infrastructure, electricity generation, transmission and distribution networks, and energy storage systems.
