In preparation for the 12th International Day of Yoga in 2026, the Ministry of AYUSH has revealed that registrations on the Yoga Sangam Portal have surpassed six lakh, showcasing broad participation from various institutions and communities nationwide. This milestone highlights the increasing enthusiasm for the Yoga Sangam initiative, where organizations will conduct synchronized yoga sessions following the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) to commemorate yoga on June 21 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ministry views this achievement as a sign of remarkable zeal among institutions and communities throughout the country, anticipating these registered entities to engage participants at their venues in support of a collective national movement for health and well-being.
The Yoga Sangam initiative, a key component of IDY 2026, aims to extend the celebration beyond a single location by empowering institutions to host yoga sessions locally while staying connected to a nationwide program. Serving as the digital backbone of this effort, the Yoga Sangam Portal streamlines registration, coordination, and participation tracking. This initiative has now reached all States and Union Territories, encompassing 778 districts nationwide. Data released by the ministry indicates that over 3.22 lakh government institutions, close to two lakh educational institutions, more than 16,000 private organizations, over 5,000 non-governmental organizations, and about 44,000 entities from various sectors have registered on the portal.
States like West Bengal and Rajasthan have shown significant involvement, with West Bengal leading in registrations with over 2.76 lakh organizations, followed by Rajasthan with nearly 1.50 lakh registrations. Other states such as Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh have also reported substantial participation. The Ministry of AYUSH is encouraging additional organizations and community groups to join by registering through the Yoga Sangam portal, a process that involves submitting organizational details, verifying credentials, providing venue information, and securing a reference number for participation.
This year’s International Day of Yoga, themed “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” emphasizes yoga’s role in promoting healthier, more active, and fulfilling lives across generations. The ministry believes that the increasing registrations on the Yoga Sangam Portal embody the essence of Jan Bhagidari and India’s collective dedication to evolving yoga from a global movement into a community-centered celebration of health and harmony. These record registrations underscore yoga’s expanding influence across the nation and signify robust public engagement leading up to the nationwide celebrations on June 21, where millions are expected to partake in synchronized yoga sessions as part of International Day of Yoga 2026.
