The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed the Gujarat government and other states to monitor the weather closely due to a depression over north interior Odisha and south Jharkhand. The depression, moving northwestwards, poses a risk of heavy rainfall across central and western India. The system is currently centered over north interior Odisha and south Jharkhand and is expected to move west-northwestwards over the next 24 hours.
For Gujarat, the advisory predicts light to moderate rainfall in most places, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in a few areas. Saurashtra and Kutch are also likely to experience rainfall, ranging from light to heavy, over the next few days. The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings for extremely heavy rainfall in Gujarat on July 6 and 7, while Saurashtra and Kutch are under very heavy rainfall alerts during the same period.
The advisory extends warnings of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall to Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, and Madhya Maharashtra. Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning and squally winds are forecasted over parts of Gujarat. Fishermen are advised against venturing into certain coastal areas until July 7 due to rough sea conditions.
The Ministry of Home Affairs emphasizes the potential impacts of the weather conditions, including uprooting of trees, damage to crops and structures, waterlogging, landslides, and transportation disruptions. People are urged to stay informed about the weather updates and take necessary precautions. State governments are requested to stay vigilant, keep district authorities on alert, and report any significant developments to the ministry.
