Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma declared that Mizoram has become one of the first Indian states to accomplish 100% implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), providing functional tap water connections to 1,33,060 households. The state government, along with the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, signed an MoU in New Delhi to initiate Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0.
The Chief Minister, in a virtual address, highlighted that Mizoram has achieved full mission implementation in all eight districts, ensuring tap water connections to every household, including schools and Anganwadi centers. This milestone marks significant progress in rural water accessibility.
Of the 852 sanctioned water supply schemes, 849 have been completed, indicating a completion rate of nearly 99%. Furthermore, 28 water testing laboratories have been set up across the state to ensure the quality and safety of drinking water.
Expressing contentment over the MoU signing for JJM 2.0, Lalduhoma stressed the effective implementation of the next mission phase in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat. He urged the prompt release of pending Central funds for the mission, pending since December 2024.
Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Patil virtually participated in the program, along with Mizoram Public Health Engineering Minister Prof. Lalnilawma and PHE Department officials from Aizawl. The MoU was signed by Zodingpuii, Secretary to the Mizoram government, and Swati Meena Naik, Joint Secretary of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
