Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced that Mizoram has become India’s first fully literate state, also making significant progress in the Human Development Index. All districts in Mizoram have been recognized as “Front Runners” in the district sustainable development index report for the Northeastern region.
At the 11th NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, Lalduhoma highlighted Mizoram’s accomplishments and development priorities. The state is aligning with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 through its roadmap, Transformed Mizoram 2047, aiming to contribute one percent to India’s GDP by 2047.
Emphasizing that achieving full literacy is just the beginning, the Chief Minister mentioned the focus on enhancing digital and financial literacy, skill development, and entrepreneurship. Mizoram is equipping youth with skills relevant to emerging industries like Electric Vehicle Maintenance, Drone Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Solar Technology.
In the past year, over 26,500 youths received skill training, with more than 72 percent finding employment afterward. Mizoram was also recognized as the Champion state in the India Skills North East Regional Competition 2025-26. The state government has launched the Chief Minister’s Innovation Challenge to promote innovation and entrepreneurship, along with establishing the Mizoram Handholding Venture Capital Fund to support start-ups.
Lalduhoma emphasized the importance of digital transformation, noting Mizoram’s advanced telecom infrastructure and tele-density of 112. The state has implemented e-Office systems, digitized land records, and expanded digital public services. He advocated for the implementation of the High-Level Committee’s recommendations on the North East Economic Corridor, emphasizing the benefits for all Northeastern states.
The Chief Minister also proposed a cluster-based investment strategy to leverage Mizoram’s tourism potential and highlighted the Thenzawl Peace City Project. He sought special support from the Central Government for Mizoram’s Handholding Programme, aligned with Viksit Bharat 2047 objectives. Lalduhoma appreciated the NITI Aayog State Support Mission’s positive impact in Mizoram and hoped for the early launch of State Support Mission 2.0.
In response to the Prime Minister’s call for fuel conservation, the Chief Minister outlined Mizoram’s initiatives, such as “No Official Vehicle Day” and promoting walking and public transportation. Lalduhoma reiterated Mizoram’s commitment to sustainable development, emphasizing knowledge, inclusiveness, peace, good governance, and environmental sustainability in the journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
