Accepting full responsibility for the DMK’s defeat in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, party President and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin emphasized the need for unity, introspection, and organizational reforms. Addressing the DMK district Secretaries, Stalin urged against blame games and stressed the importance of taking responsibility for defeat. He described the defeat as an “electoral current” and highlighted the necessity for constituency-wise analysis to reconnect with the people through disciplined work.
The meeting, held at the party headquarters Anna Arivalayam, marked the first major organizational gathering after the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance lost power in the elections. Stalin referred to the rise of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led alliance as a “new and attractive magic tsunami” that caused significant political damage in Tamil Nadu. He called on party members to work towards “rescuing people from the tsunami” and emphasized the importance of unity within the party.
Stalin announced a statewide field study to identify the reasons behind the defeat, with a committee set to submit a detailed report within 20 days. Additionally, a dedicated website will be launched to gather feedback from party members and supporters regarding the defeat and expected changes in the party structure. Stalin hinted at major restructuring within the DMK, stating that “drastic changes” would be implemented based on feedback received.
Expressing confidence in the party’s future, Stalin reassured that the DMK would return stronger in Tamil Nadu politics, emphasizing the resilience and determination of the party.
