Moises Henriques, the most capped player in Australian domestic cricket history, has announced his retirement from New South Wales and the Sydney Sixers. His full domestic retirement comes after a successful career, including leading the Sixers to the BBL 15 Final. Henriques will now focus on playing for his native Portugal in upcoming tournaments.
Henriques, who migrated from Portugal to Australia as a child, will also participate in the new European T20 competition with Glasgow Cosmic. Despite interest from other BBL teams, he decided not to pursue those opportunities. The 39-year-old all-rounder had back surgery earlier this year and was not offered a contract for the upcoming KFC BBL 16 season.
Having played 420 matches across all formats for NSW and the Sixers, Henriques leaves a lasting legacy in Australian cricket. He has won 14 major trophies with Cricket NSW teams and represented Australia in all three formats. Henriques expressed gratitude to his teammates and colleagues, signaling the end of his professional cricket career.
Henriques will continue his involvement in the game as the Cricket NSW Foundation Director, a role he has held since late 2025. His retirement marks the end of an era in Australian cricket, with his significant contributions and achievements celebrated by fans and peers alike.
