A month-long celebration called ‘Vikramotsav,’ dedicated to Samrat Vikramaditya, is set to kick off in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, starting from February 15 and concluding on March 19.

The Madhya Pradesh government, after a review meeting led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, has unveiled the detailed schedule for the festivities, encompassing religious, cultural, and trade activities during the grand event. The event will begin on February 15 with the inauguration of various fairs, including the Kalash Yatra and a musical performance titled ‘Shivoham’ by renowned artists.

Scheduled activities include a Vikram Theatre Festival featuring national and international theatrical artists from February 16 to 25, an international history conclave, puppet festival, and research symposium from February 26 to 28, and an intellectual conclave on justice during Samrat Vikramaditya’s era from February 28 to March 1, followed by an all-India poets’ conference on March 7.

The event will also feature an international festival of mythological films with entries from over 20 countries, Veda Antakshari, and a Sunrise worship at Ramghat, Dutt Akhara, on the occasion of Gudi Padwa. The grand finale on March 19 will celebrate Varsh Pratipada and Srishti Aarambh Diwas as Ujjayini Gaurav Diwas.

The main event, to be held on the banks of the Shipra River, will include the presentation of the Samrat Vikramaditya Award, the release of the Vikram Panchang 2082-83, the second edition of Arsha Bharat, and the dance-drama Mahadev Ki Nadi Katha, as per the government’s announcement.

Chief Minister Yadav stressed the importance of showcasing all facets of Samrat Vikramaditya’s personality effectively and comprehensively during the Vikramotsav. He highlighted the significance of introducing the younger generation to the contributions of Samrat Vikramaditya for the preservation of Indian knowledge systems and cultural heritage. Additionally, he directed the involvement of science colleges, engineering colleges, and polytechnic institutes in events focusing on the scientific aspects of Samrat Vikramaditya.
