The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Kolkata’s Alipore area has forecasted continued rain in south Bengal districts and Kolkata over the next four to five days. The ongoing spell of rain is expected to persist as monsoon winds intensify due to favorable conditions. Habibur Rahman Biswas, Eastern Regional Director of RMC, mentioned a cyclone circulation over gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh, with the monsoon axis stretching from Rajasthan to Mizoram in north-eastern India.
A ‘Yellow Alert’ for rain has been issued across all districts of south Bengal, with heavy to very heavy rain anticipated in East Burdwan, Nadia, and Bankura districts. Furthermore, scattered heavy rains are expected in various districts including Birbhum, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, and Howrah. Kolkata may experience moderate rain on Saturday, with scattered light to moderate showers anticipated in the following days.
In north Bengal, heavy to very heavy rain is likely in most upper districts today, with a ‘Yellow Alert’ in place for all districts. Additionally, an ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar districts, warning of very heavy rain until Sunday. On Friday, Kolkata and its surrounding areas recorded a maximum temperature of 28.6 degrees Celsius, 4.2 degrees below normal, and a minimum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degrees below normal, with high humidity levels.
