Police in J&K’s Rajouri district successfully defused three mortar shells found along the Line of Control (LoC) at two locations. Two shells were discovered in the Jhanghar forest area, while another was abandoned in Makri village of Nowshera sector. The army’s bomb disposal squad safely handled the situation.
In a separate incident, a balloon shaped like an aeroplane with PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) markings was recovered at Dhaki Nala near the International Border in Samba district. Villagers spotted the white and green-colored balloon, which is a common occurrence along the border, and the local police seized it. These balloons often drift into Indian territory from across the border.
Mortar shells fired from across the LoC in J&K have been frequently found unexploded, endangering civilians living along the border. Following civilian killings by Pakistan-backed terrorists in Pahalgam, Indian armed forces conducted ‘Operation Sindoor,’ prompting Pakistani troops to target civilian facilities along the LoC with heavy mortar shelling. This led to casualties and destruction of property in Poonch district.
In response to Pakistan’s escalation in 2025, India retaliated by destroying several of Pakistan’s defense facilities through precision strikes. The situation remains tense along the LoC due to such incidents.
