Dairy company Mother Dairy has announced an increase of Rs 2 per litre for its main liquid milk products across the country, starting May 14. This decision follows a similar move by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) to raise prices of Amul fresh milk by Rs 2 per litre from the same date. Mother Dairy explained that the price adjustment was necessary due to a continuous 6% rise in farmer procurement costs over the past year, despite efforts to minimize the impact on consumers.
The company clarified that the price hike only partly covers the increased expenses and is intended to strike a fair balance between supporting farmers and consumer interests. Mother Dairy emphasized that it directs around 75-80% of its milk sales earnings towards farmers and procurement, ensuring both farmer welfare and consistent milk quality for consumers. Bulk vended milk, previously priced at Rs 56 per litre, will now cost Rs 58 per litre.
Full cream milk will be sold at Rs 72 per litre, up from Rs 70, while toned milk will see an increase from Rs 58 to Rs 60 per litre. Double-toned milk prices have been raised from Rs 52 to Rs 54 per litre, and cow milk from Rs 60 to Rs 62 per litre. Additionally, pro milk rates have been revised from Rs 70 to Rs 72 per litre. Mother Dairy noted that the last price adjustment was made in April 2025.
GCMMF also announced a price hike affecting various milk types and pack sizes nationwide, resulting in a 2.5 to 3.5% increase in maximum retail prices.
