Jaipur, Aug 7 (IANS) On the occasion of National Handloom Day, Jaipur MP Manju Sharma visited the Handloom House at Kharak Singh Marg in New Delhi to purchase Khadi and handloom products, reinforcing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for ‘Vocal for Local’ and the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).

She purchased Khadi garments for herself and her family members, as well as a range of products from the Khadi and Village Industries sector, expressing her support for local weavers and artisans.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharma said India’s handloom tradition is not merely a textile craft but a living symbol of the country’s rich cultural heritage, self-reliance and the dedication of millions of artisans. She noted that every thread of Khadi reflects the spirit of Swadeshi, self-respect and a self-reliant India.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal on National Handloom Day, Sharma said citizens should make a conscious effort to purchase handloom and Khadi products.

She emphasised that this appeal goes beyond shopping and is directly linked to the livelihoods, dignity and economic well-being of lakhs of weaver families across the country.

She further stated that if every household adopts Khadi and handloom products, even for a few occasions during the year, it would provide a significant boost to the rural economy and strengthen India’s traditional industries.

Highlighting the growing global recognition of Indian handloom products, Sharma said their superior quality, natural fabrics and traditional craftsmanship have earned them a distinct identity in international markets.

She urged every Indian to prioritise locally made products and help transform the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign into a nationwide movement.

Appealing to citizens to incorporate Khadi and handloom products into festivals, family celebrations and everyday life, Sharma said such choices would not only preserve India’s rich cultural legacy but also strengthen the livelihoods of lakhs of weaver families.

She added that her purchase on National Handloom Day was more than a symbolic gesture, it was a reaffirmation of the ideals of Swadeshi, Atmanirbhar Bharat and support for local artisans.

“The vision of a self-reliant India can be realised only when every citizen strengthens the nation’s weavers, artisans and local industries through conscious purchasing decisions,” she said.
