An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Mumbai was arrested by the city’s police for allegedly molesting a 9-year-old girl in a public garden in Worli. The officer faces charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Following his arrest, he was presented before a local court and remanded to judicial custody.
The incident occurred when the victim was playing in a garden, and the officer reportedly approached her, engaged in indecent acts, and forced her to touch him inappropriately. The girl, distressed by the encounter, confided in her mother, who promptly reported the incident to the police. Worli Police acted swiftly, apprehending the officer based on initial inquiries and the victim’s identification.
Subsequently, another minor boy came forward with similar allegations against the officer, leading to an expanded investigation. The accused has been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act. The lack of CCTV footage at the scene has made the case reliant on witness statements and forensic evidence.
The arrested officer, originally from Nagpur, had been stationed at the Mumbai office of the Director General of Police (DGP) since November 2025. This incident has raised concerns about accountability and oversight for officers in authoritative roles. Mumbai Police officials have assured a thorough investigation to ensure justice prevails.
