The Mumbai Police has removed Constable Shyam Sonawane, who served as the bodyguard of ex-NCP leader Baba Siddique, from his position due to alleged negligence in the murder case. Sonawane, part of the Protection and Security Branch, was responsible for Siddique’s safety and faced suspension following the fatal shooting incident. An inquiry revealed Sonawane’s failure in duty, leading to his official dismissal from service.
Baba Siddique, fatally shot by three attackers outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s Bandra office on October 12, 2024, prompted immediate action against Sonawane. The constable, attached to the Protection and Security Branch, was swiftly suspended post the incident, with subsequent disciplinary measures taken. An official dismissal letter was issued to Sonawane, who accepted the decision on May 2, marking the end of his service due to negligence.
In a related development, Anmol Bishnoi, brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was extradited from the US to New Delhi in connection with the Baba Siddique murder case in November 2025. Bishnoi’s arrest made him the 19th suspect in the NIA investigation, with previous charges linking him to criminal activities alongside Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi between 2020 and 2023. Additionally, Zeeshan Akhtar, a suspected key plotter in Siddique’s assassination, was apprehended in Canada in June 2025.
