The Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited revealed the initial phase plan for the Musi Riverfront Development Project, envisioning a transformation of the 55-km stretch into an economic hub akin to global riverfronts like Seoul, Tokyo, Paris, and London. This first phase, covering 21 km, is estimated to cost between Rs 6,500 to Rs 7,000 crore. The project aims to address various aspects including river cleaning, flood control, public spaces, mobility, sustainable development, heritage tourism, and zones for a 24X7 economy.
The project encompasses blue and green master plans, land use planning, marquee projects, infrastructure development, and financial strategies. A significant portion of the water from the Godavari River linkage project, totaling 20 TMC, will be allocated for Musi River rejuvenation and drinking water supply to Hyderabad. The initial phase will focus on two river stretches, Esa and Musa, meeting at Gandhi Sarovar or Bapu Ghat, a site where Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed in 1948.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, speaking at the event, emphasized the importance of the project amidst misinformation circulating about it. He highlighted the historical significance of rivers in human civilization and stressed the need for progress in line with global advancements. The Chief Minister urged critics to provide constructive feedback and reassured that the project aims not only to clean the river but also to safeguard the city’s culture, history, and environment.
