Cricket Namibia President Rudie van Vuuren commended the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Chairman Jay Shah for their efforts in enhancing associate nations and upgrading cricket infrastructure. At the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, eight Associate Nations are participating, including Namibia, Nepal, and the USA. Van Vuuren highlighted the ICC’s support in developing high-performance facilities, enabling nations like Namibia to progress in cricket.
Namibia, an ICC associate member, secured a spot in the T20 World Cup in 2021 and has since qualified for the tournament four times consecutively. Recently, the ICC chief met with African Cricket Association leaders in Windhoek, reaffirming the ICC’s dedication to promoting cricket in Africa. Namibia’s hosting of matches in the 2026 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup and the upcoming 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup signifies a significant milestone for the country.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier was successfully hosted by Namibia last year, with eight countries vying for spots in the Global Qualifier for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Van Vuuren emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities to showcase talent and demonstrate that associate members are integral to the future of cricket.
