National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar visited Nanded district court in Maharashtra to review the conditions for women inmates and discuss their issues. Rahatkar emphasized the importance of upholding human rights and dignity for all women, highlighting the need for respect and rehabilitation.
During her visit, Rahatkar engaged with women prisoners at Nanded District Jail to gain insights into their challenges and requirements. She stressed that while laws may restrict freedom, they should not impede fundamental human rights. Every woman, she stated, deserves the opportunity for dignity, sensitivity, and reintegration into society.
Rahatkar also paid her respects at Shri Takht Sachkhand Shri Hazur Sahib in Nanded, describing it as a place of profound faith, sacrifice, and humanity. She reflected on the spiritual significance of the site, where Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s legacy is honored, and expressed her reverence for the tradition of human Gurus.
Recognized for her contributions to women’s empowerment, Rahatkar received the ‘Late Smt. Kusumtai Chavan Memorial Award 2026’ from the publication ‘Satyaprabha.’ She expressed gratitude for the recognition and highlighted the achievements of Indian women across various fields, while also acknowledging the challenges they face, including cybercrime, violence, and family-related stress.
In her remarks, Rahatkar underscored the pivotal role of motherhood in guiding society and emphasized the historical significance of strong female leaders during times of crisis. She expressed confidence in the resilience of contemporary women to overcome challenges and lead society forward.
