Jammu and Kashmir’s ruling party, the National Conference (NC), led a protest in Delhi urging the immediate restoration of statehood. They called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill his commitment made in Parliament and the Union government’s stance in the Supreme Court. The protest, joined by J&K Congress leaders, displayed placards demanding the restoration of rights and dignity for the people of J&K.

NC President Farooq Abdullah, along with other leaders and workers, gathered at the Jammu and Kashmir House on Prithviraj Road during the Monsoon session’s opening day. The protesters, carrying placards with messages like “Fulfil your promise” and “Restore full statehood,” also questioned why Modi’s promise remained unfulfilled. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was observed heading to the Constitution Club for a seminar on J&K’s statehood restoration.

Farooq Abdullah emphasized the importance of fulfilling the promises made regarding J&K’s statehood in Parliament, the Supreme Court, and to the people. He expressed hope that the government would address the concerns of the people and work towards resolving Ladakh’s issues while restoring J&K’s statehood. The protest, initially planned at Jantar Mantar, faced delays due to pending permission from the Delhi administration, according to NC leaders.

The protest at Jantar Mantar saw the presence of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), with security forces intervening as protesters approached Parliament from the Sansad Marg side. Police used mild force to control the crowd, halting them at Raisina Road, a short distance from Parliament. The CJP stated that the government had initiated talks with them, with two spokespersons meeting Union Minister J.P. Nadda to present the outfit’s demands.

Delhi Police reportedly used force to disperse students and youth activists marching from Mandi House Metro Station towards Jantar Mantar. Ahead of the Parliament march, the Delhi Metro temporarily closed five stations citing security reasons, later reopening Central Secretariat and Rajiv Chowk with interchange facilities available.
