The National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) in Karnataka has called on the Congress-led state government to persist with the re-survey of former Devadasis in a thorough and fair manner. The Devadasi system, deeply ingrained in certain regions, has historically exploited Dalit women, subjecting them to generations of abuse. Despite being outlawed, remnants of this exploitative system still endure in some parts of the country.

NFIW State President Jyothi A. highlighted concerns about the recent re-survey, revealing discrepancies in the reported numbers of identified women compared to past records. She criticized the lack of oversight in the re-survey process, emphasizing the need for a more inclusive and just approach. Jyothi also pointed out the challenges faced by former Devadasi women in providing the required documentation for the re-survey.

The NFIW representatives underscored the importance of ongoing supervision and evaluation at the local levels to ensure the integrity of the re-survey process. They emphasized the need for increased awareness among former Devadasis about the re-survey procedures and advocated for a comprehensive and transparent approach to address the needs of all deserving victims. The demand for a thorough investigation into discrepancies and the inclusion of genuine beneficiaries in rehabilitation schemes was also stressed.
