The National Testing Agency (NTA) initiated a nationwide mock drill on Saturday in preparation for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for Sunday. Over 2.5 lakh security personnel are participating in the drill, which began at 9 A.M. and will continue throughout the day until late evening. The NTA has taken control of all designated test centers to ensure a secure and seamless conduct of the upcoming test.
The re-examination will feature a three-layer security arrangement at each center to prevent malpractice and uphold the examination’s integrity. Paramilitary personnel will supervise the transportation, storage, and protection of question papers and answer sheets as part of the security framework. Additionally, more than 5,000 examination centers nationwide will be under CCTV surveillance, with a significant deployment of security staff.
The Delhi High Court recently upheld the temporary restriction of Telegram services across the country before the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination. The court supported the government’s decision, stating that the restrictions were proportionate and legally executed. The suspension of Telegram services until June 22, along with the disabling of its message-editing feature until June 30, was deemed justified by the court given the circumstances surrounding the national medical entrance examination.
Authorities argued that Telegram had been misused for examination-related fraud, with several channels on the platform allegedly involved in circulating fake NEET question papers. Due to the ineffectiveness of removing individual channels or content, temporary platform-wide restrictions were deemed necessary before the June 21 re-examination. The NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination is set to accommodate over 22 lakh candidates following allegations of question paper leaks after the initial examination on May 3.
