Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President, Naveen Patnaik, called for immediate and strict action from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi following the brutal murder of a pregnant woman in Kharida village, Ganjam district. The victim, staging a protest seeking justice, was fatally attacked in front of her 3-year-old daughter by her partner’s brother. Patnaik emphasized the need for the arrest of all suspects, care for the traumatized child, and an inquiry into the lack of preventive measures by the police.
Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan expressed deep sorrow over the incident, labeling it as highly unfortunate and unacceptable. He assured that the police are actively pursuing the case to ensure justice for the victim. The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding law and order and dealing decisively with such heinous crimes. The tragic event unfolded as the pregnant woman, Puja Swain, was allegedly murdered by her partner’s minor brother in broad daylight.
Jintu Gauda, the victim’s partner, had eloped with Puja Swain two years ago, leading to their marriage and the birth of their daughter. However, Jintu reportedly abandoned Puja and their child, prompting her to seek legal recourse against him and his family. Despite her protest at their residence, the lack of police action culminated in the fatal attack on Puja by Jintu’s younger brother. The minor suspect has been apprehended by the authorities.
