Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) initiated commercial activities on Thursday, a significant achievement for Mumbai’s aviation sector and India’s infrastructure development. Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani personally greeted the first passengers, hailing the occasion as a proud day for Mumbai and the nation.
Gautam Adani expressed, “Welcoming NMIA’s first passengers alongside the Param Vir Chakra awardees offered a glimpse of India now taking shape.” He further added, “Standing with workers, farmers, social workers, and colleagues with disabilities, captured the spirit of a nation moving forward with confidence and compassion.”
The newly opened airport, officially known as Navi Mumbai International Airport, was unveiled to the public on December 25. With this launch, Mumbai joins global cities like London and New York in managing increasing air traffic by operating multiple airports.
Expected to alleviate congestion at ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport,’ the new airport will cater to the region’s long-term travel requirements. Developed and managed by Adani Airports Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited, it stands as one of India’s largest greenfield airport projects completed in record time.
