The NCB has dismantled an international drug trafficking network that connected Nepal, India, and Sri Lanka, leading to the arrest of five individuals and the confiscation of 77.60 kg of Hashish Oil and 2 kg of Charas valued at nearly Rs 10 crore. Acting on credible intelligence, officers of NCB Hyderabad Zonal Unit intercepted a Tata Safari Storme car near Raikal Toll Plaza on the Bengaluru–Hyderabad Highway in Telangana on March 3.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers found 2 kg of Charas hidden in specially designed compartments. Two individuals, one from Delhi and the other from Uttar Pradesh, were detained in connection with the transportation of the contraband. Investigations revealed that the seized Charas, along with approximately 78 kg of Hashish Oil, were smuggled into India from Kathmandu, Nepal, through the Sonauli Indo-Nepal Border.
NCB Chennai took action against the trafficking of Hashish Oil from Tamil Nadu to Sri Lanka, resulting in the seizure of about 78 kg of Hashish Oil from three individuals, including a Sri Lankan refugee. The traffickers planned to transport the narcotics through coastal waters off Thoothukudi and deliver them mid-sea to a Sri Lankan recipient using a fishing boat for the maritime transfer.
With the help of the Indian Coast Guard, NCB intercepted and confiscated the fishing boat suspected to be used for the planned mid-sea transfer near the International Maritime Boundary Line, preventing the cross-border maritime trafficking attempt. Further investigations have revealed the involvement of a Sri Lankan individual, based in Sri Lanka, as the ultimate recipient of the seized contraband, who financed and coordinated the shipment from Nepal to Sri Lanka.
