The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) showcased a series of significant anti-drug actions conducted nationwide in May. These operations included dismantling a transnational narcotics network, seizing high-grade cocaine worth Rs 1,745 crore, and making India’s first-ever capture of Captagon tablets. The NCB emphasized its relentless and coordinated efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse.
During May, the NCB carried out various activities aimed at safeguarding the nation from the drug menace. These efforts ranged from arresting key traffickers, securing landmark convictions, and destroying narcotic drugs to the preventive detention of habitual drug offenders. The agency also organized a State-Level JCC meeting to enhance inter-agency coordination in narcotics intelligence gathering and enforcement.
In Mumbai on May 1, the NCB disrupted a major international narcotics network and confiscated 349 kg of high-grade cocaine valued at around Rs 1,745 crore. Subsequently, on May 2, a State-Level JCC meeting was held in Rajasthan to strengthen inter-agency coordination in narcotics intelligence gathering and enforcement. In another instance, individuals involved in a charas seizure case in 2021 were sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The NCB’s operations extended to various regions, with joint efforts leading to significant seizures. For instance, a joint operation in Jodhpur and Rajasthan resulted in the confiscation of a controlled substance along with essential chemicals. In Odisha, 106 kg of ganja was seized during an operation against an inter-state drug syndicate. Additionally, a drug kingpin was arrested in Delhi, and multiple other drug seizures were made across different states during the month.
