The National Cadet Corps (NCC) has made history by organizing its inaugural All-India Basic Paramotor Course, certifying 100 Senior Division (SD) Boy Cadets as basic paramotor pilots in just a month. The course, held at the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) Centre in Guwahati, spanned 15 days from May 21 to June 4. It equipped 50 cadets from 10 states and Union Territories with essential paramotoring skills like ground handling, powered flight operations, and aerial navigation.
The cadets exhibited remarkable dedication and bravery throughout the training, each completing a minimum of five solo flights to earn their basic paramotor pilot credentials. Conducted by the NIMAS Paramotor Node in Guwahati, the program marked a significant milestone as the sole civilian institute in India, besides the Indian Armed Forces, authorized to conduct certified paramotor training. Expert instructors, a Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)-compliant syllabus, and stringent safety measures were provided by the institute.
Following the successful completion of the All NCC North Eastern Region (NER) Directorate Basic Paramotor Course, where 50 cadets from northeastern states underwent similar training, the NCC has now trained and certified a total of 100 SD Boy Cadets as basic paramotor pilots in under a month. This achievement sets a new standard in aero-adventure training for Indian youth, showcasing NCC’s dedication to instilling leadership, confidence, discipline, and adventure among cadets while enhancing opportunities for specialized skill development.
As part of its ongoing efforts, NCC plans to have 60 Senior Wing Girl Cadets undergo Basic Paramotor Course training between October and November this year. The Basic Paramotor Course will become a regular component of NCC’s annual training curriculum, ensuring aero-adventure activities are integrated into cadet training nationwide.
