The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, has unveiled its last list of candidates ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. This final announcement includes 30 candidates, bringing the total count to 94 for the upcoming civic polls. Notably, the NCP, excluded from the BJP Shiv Sena Mahayuti, is independently contesting the BMC elections.
The party has strategically revealed its candidates in phases, with 37 names in the first list and 27 in the second. By releasing the final 30 names, the NCP aims to demonstrate its readiness to compete in the Mumbai elections with full organizational strength. Among the 94 candidates, 52 are women, known as “Ladkya Bahini,” a move that party leaders believe could work in their favor.
With plans for an aggressive campaign in Mumbai, the NCP is set to field 94 candidates across the city’s 227 wards, positioning itself as a strong independent entity. Emphasizing “merit and winnability” in the selection process, the party aims to challenge established strongholds in Mumbai’s diverse neighborhoods. A party spokesperson affirmed that the NCP is fully prepared for the electoral battle.
The NCP’s independent participation adds complexity to the multi-cornered contest in Mumbai, as it seeks to strengthen its presence in the financial capital. Meanwhile, the Sharad Pawar-led NCP has also released its second list of candidates for the BMC elections, with a total of 11 candidates in alliance with Shiv Sena UBT and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.
